Pertamina Enhances Transparency in Crude Oil Management
Lamseen – Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing transparency in crude oil and fuel management, including import and export processes.
Speaking at a press conference at Pertamina’s headquarters on Monday, Mantiri addressed the alleged corruption case involving crude oil and refinery product management from 2018 to 2023. He assured that the company would implement stronger governance practices to prevent similar issues in the future.

To ensure accountability, Pertamina will collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to evaluate and improve crude oil management practices. The company will also use findings from the Attorney General’s Office as a basis for strengthening financial integrity and operational efficiency.

To achieve this, Pertamina will collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to evaluate and enhance crude oil management systems. Authorities have uncovered corruption allegations involving crude oil and refinery product management at Pertamina’s subsidiaries, including PT Pertamina Sub-holding and several contractors (KKKS) between 2018 and 2023.
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) reported that suspects deliberately suppressed domestic crude oil and refinery production, creating an artificial demand for imports. As a result, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional imported crude oil, while PT Pertamina Patra Niaga purchased refinery products to meet domestic energy needs.
Investigators revealed that the imported crude oil and refinery products were purchased at significantly higher prices than locally produced oil, leading to financial losses for the company and the state. The ongoing probe aims to hold those responsible accountable and implement stricter governance measures to prevent future misconduct.
As Pertamina strengthens transparency efforts, officials emphasize the need for stricter oversight in crude oil management to protect Indonesia’s energy sector from further financial harm.
