Indonesian Government Urges Legal Routes For Overseas Jobs
Lamseen – Deputy Minister for Migrant Workers Protection, Christina Aryani, encouraged Indonesians seeking employment abroad to follow legal pathways. She advised jobseekers to rely on trusted platforms, specifically the P2MI Ministry’s official social media channels and the SiskoP2MI website, which regularly share verified job opportunities.
She noted that these platforms are the safest starting points for anyone planning to work overseas and serve as the government’s primary information outlets for international job programs.
Aryani explained that three government-to-government (G2G) job placement programs are currently active. The program with South Korea focuses on roles in manufacturing and fisheries, while the partnerships with Japan and Germany are centered on the health sector.
In addition, she confirmed that a number of private-to-private (P2P) programs are also accessible. These are facilitated by licensed Indonesian placement companies (P3MI) working with verified international agencies.
She warned, however, that independent placements—especially outside of professional roles—are discouraged. “If problems occur and the worker is not at fault, accountability is harder to enforce without formal placement structures,” she said.

Aryani urged jobseekers to always confirm the legal status of recruitment companies. She explained that the P2MI Ministry provides WhatsApp and email channels for this purpose.
She also reminded the public that the moratorium on sending domestic workers to Middle Eastern countries remains active. “Any job ad claiming to offer domestic work in those regions is definitely illegal,” she emphasized.
Aryani concluded by emphasizing that international employers expect more than just basic documentation. She highlighted that every country and job type requires specific skill sets, along with language proficiency tailored to the host country.
“Passports alone are not enough. Workers must be prepared with the right skills and the language ability to succeed in a foreign environment,” she said.
