Indonesia Boosts Swallow Nest Exports for Economic Growth
Lamseen – Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono urged Indonesians to explore swallow nest farming as a means to enhance household incomes and strengthen the country’s exports sector.

“We are dedicated to increasing export volumes and simplifying regulations to motivate entrepreneurs and communities,” Sudaryono stated. He highlighted that the government is prepared to accelerate and streamline processes to ensure smoother operations for farmers and exporters.
Sudaryono reiterated the president’s clear directive: to achieve food self-sufficiency, reduce imports, and significantly boost exports. By fostering an enabling environment for swallow nest cultivation, the government aims to tap into Indonesia’s dominance in the global market, where the country already supplies 60% of the world’s swallow nests.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono expressed optimism about increasing Indonesia’s share in global swallow nest exports from the current 60% to 63-65%. This goal aligns with the government’s ambition to solidify the nation’s leadership in the global market for swallow nests.
“By providing suitable nesting places for swallows, farmers can generate substantial income,” Sudaryono noted. He emphasized that the high market value of swallow nests, reaching tens of millions of rupiah per kilogram, presents a significant opportunity to strengthen household economies.
To further boost economic impact, the Ministry of Agriculture is promoting the downstream processing of swallow nest products. This initiative aims to enhance the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) by adding value to raw exports.
Indonesia currently dominates the global supply of swallow nests, contributing between 60% and 80% of the worldwide total. China remains the primary export destination, importing approximately 500 tons annually from Indonesia’s total export volume of 1,800 tons.
By fostering innovation and supporting farmers, the government seeks to expand Indonesia’s market presence while ensuring sustainable growth in the industry.
